It was redemption for Luke Shaw after he scored to spark the fightback for the Three Lions of England during their home game with old foes Germany in the UEFA Nations League this season. The Germans and England have been drawn in Group C of this season’s Nations League alongside Euro 2020 winners Italy and Hungary.
Manchester United signed Dutchman Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie this summer as the man to provide competition for the aforementioned Shaw at left-back. However, new manager Ten Hag opted to start Malacia ahead of Shaw in the third league game of the season and he has performed exceptionally well to retain his place in the team at the expense of the Englishman. Shaw had started the first two league games of the season which ended in defeats for the Red Devils.
For the Nations League Group A3 clash between hosts England and Germany, Manchester City midfielder IlkayGundogan scored the opener for Germany from the penalty spot seven minutes into the second half before the lead was doubled by Chelsea attacking talent Kai Havertz around a minute off the midway stage of the second half. Five minutes later, former Southampton left-back Shaw pulled a goal back for England five minutes later off the assist from Chelsea star Reece James.Cheslea midfielder Mason Mount came off the bench shortly before the second Germany goal and he scored the equaliser for England before the spot kick from Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane on 83 minutes gave the Three Lions the lead for the first time in the game. Havertz then completed his brace four minutes later to ensure the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
