Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has said that he is extremely scared about the end of his career. The 33-year-old has been an inspirational player for Liverpool since making his debut as a teenager almost 2 decades ago. During this period, he has managed to win every major title like the Champions league with Liverpool. The league title remains as the only trophy missing from his cabinet, and it looks highly unlikely that Liverpool will be able to win it this season. Gerrard came extremely close to leaving Liverpool in 2005 when Chelsea came with a mega offer.
He resisted the opportunity to join José Mourinho back then, but he has no regrets about leaving Liverpool. The club will be honouring the midfielder by holding a testimonial against Greek club Olympiakos at Anfield. A number of former players including the recently retired Jamie Carragher are expected to be part of the Liverpool team. The 33-year-old only recently extended his contract by two years, which will keep him at the club until the age of 35. Gerrard believes that he will be able to carry on playing even beyond this contract.
However, he is keen to make the most out of the time he has left in football.
“It does scare me to be in the final stages but I also just want to make the most of it. I have two years signed and I want to make the most of those – who knows, I might even extend them further. We will have to wait and see. We finished last season really strongly, in the last five months we showed Champions League form so the manager has asked us to continue where we left off and hopefully we can put a better challenge in for the top four places,” said Gerrard.
