The Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has said that the summer signing Christian Benteke has to capability to become one of the best strikers for Aston Villa. The Belgian international was signed by the club after long-standing interest for £ 7 million in the summer. He has been able to keep out the star striker Darren Bent out of the first team this season. Even though his is not been able to score a lot of goals up until now, the Belgian came up with the goods in the recent 3-2 win over Swindon in the League Cup.
He has been guilty of missing a number of good chances for the team that would have otherwise been converted by Darren Bent. Yet, the two goals he scored against Swindon these are signs of things to come according to the fellow striker Gabriel Agbonlahor. The England international scored the other goal in the match. Agbonlahor has also said that the 21-year-old Christian Benteke is just now getting settled in to life in English football. He said that due to his age, he has the capability to improve even further in the coming months. Agbonlahor also praised his attitude in training.
“Christian gives us a different option and he can hold the ball up similar to when John Carew was here. He can also win a lot of aerial balls and he can finish as he showed at Swindon. It was world-class finishing. When you’ve got a striker like Christian who can finish the chances, it is a big boost,” said Agbonlahor after the Swindon match. Agbonlahor himself is looking to get back on track after a few seasons after not scoring as many goals as he would have liked, which have led to his exile from the England national team.
